![]() In answer to that question, I took a management position with H&R Block last November, and as I'm sure you're aware, things have been pretty crazy. The Covid-19 virus is running rampant and we are trying to do our best to make sure people get their refunds as a lot of businesses have closed down. It's been a pretty insane time and I keep wondering if I will wake up and this would have all been a dream, a really bad dream. It's pretty surreal, driving home from work and not seeing a soul on the road and all the businesses that have shut down. Restaurants that I visited, their lights are off and the place empty. It definitely feels like an apocalypse has hit us. I wonder when things will calm down and when this will come to some kind of end. There is an unsettling feeling in the world right now and people are scared. For the first time in my life, I have seen this unsteady of emotions that wavers between fear, anger and sadness in a world that feels unsafe. There's been banters of "Mother Nature is doing a reset" to "God is sending us to our rooms to think about what we've done." To "Everytime I go to the store, it feels like a scene out of the Walking Dead." I have to think that people are terrified, wondering if they will be the next victim. This virus can strike anyone at anytime and without warning. And no one knows how they will respond to it. There's mild symptoms that mimic a cold, to symptoms so bad they need life support. Even the healthy seem to be afflicted, that's why this is so scary. We simply don't know. All this being said, the one thing that seems to be arising from all this, is some people seem to be recognizing how to be grateful for what they have and the family and friends in their lives. That's why maybe, this is a reset, maybe it was intended to 'wake people up'. Remind them that life is delicate, fragile and should not be taken for granted. Everyday, I try to look at my life and see at least one good thing about it. Some days are harder than others, but I can tell you I try, just one thing. So that's your homework for the next few weeks, until we can get past this, and even beyond. I hope that I will be able to get back here and write again, soon, but in the meantime, be grateful. Write it down if you have to, but think of three things per day to be grateful for. Ex: The sunshine, my hair, my kiddos, my pets, etc. You get the idea. Share it here if you'd like but at the very least, do it. Make the effort, because right now, that's what we need, to remember the good and to think about all the things that make our lives wonderful. Please be safe, think good thoughts, remember social distancing, and wash those hands! Namaste!
